School of the World was one of the first Costa Rica Spanish schools to offer Spanish classes near the beach, way back in 1997. Our Spanish program focuses most heavily on conversational Spanish to get you comfortably communicating with native speakers in real world situations.

About Spanish
Our Spanish Language program meets International university standards for Spanish study. It is designed to help you become proficient and comfortable communicating in Spanish with extra emphasis on the skills you need for practical and fast communication with native speakers. All of this while enjoying a relaxing and fun environment conducive to learning. Our Spanish lessons cover new material for approximately two hours per day in class, then students meet again with an instructor for another one to two hours per day for labs. Labs are designed to reinforce the lessons covered in class through games, field trips, homework help, and fun activities such as cooking regional foods or attending cultural events.
Beginner 1, Beginner 2, Intermediate, and Intermediate-Advanced levels are available from 1 week to 1 month and Beyond.

A typical day . . . Spanish
1) Spanish classes are 2 hours per day, Monday- Friday, plus 1-2 hours of lab everyday. The Spanish schedule will change weekly. This ensures that our students who are taking Spanish and Surf have optimal surf conditions.
2) Classes are held in our open-air classrooms. All classes are group classes and you will be in class with other students that have similar Spanish ability. When you register for classes you are required to take a Spanish placement test so that we can place you in the correct level.
3) If you’re taking any of our course combos, the surf schedule is designed to give you at least 30 minutes between surf sessions and your other classes. Keep in mind that depending on your course combo, you may be in class for up to 7 hours per day.
4) Weekends are yours to do what you like. It is a great time to explore the area, travel independently, go to the local surf competition, zipline, or just relax by the pool.
