At School of the World, our learning vacations are designed to immerse travelers in the Costa Rican culture, relax in a unique and shared living space, and enrich their minds by learning new skills and exploring new hobbies.
Beyond the Resort
One of the appeals of traveling is the opportunity to see a new place, interact with new people, try new foods, and experience a new culture. But, how can you do this from inside a resort where everyone speaks the same language and you have all the comforts of home at your fingertips?Â
A learning vacation allows you to go beyond the resort. We have designed our courses in ways that encompass the local interests, offerings, and lifestyles of Jacó, Costa Rica. Our surf, yoga, Spanish, and photography instructors have designed their courses so students can experience the true Costa Rican lifestyle. Each program goes beyond the classroom. From exploring vibrant local hangouts, hidden surf spots, secret rainforest hikes, and the community’s favorite restaurants and bars, we ensure that your vacation is filled with opportunities to truly connect with the real Costa Rica.
Find Your Passion
Over the years, School of the World has seen travelers from all walks of life. We’ve welcomed solo travelers, couples, groups of friends, and even families. Our goal is to ensure that each individual who walks through the door leaves with a new skill, perspective, and sometimes a newfound passion.
Our surf program is designed to make students feel empowered while on the board and in the ocean. Our unique course structure combines classroom work, board work in the water, and film review. Each instructor takes the time to get to know their students on a personal level. We believe that individuals learn differently and at different paces. Our instructors adapt the courses and instruction plans to meet the needs and skill levels of their students. It is our goal to introduce surfing to our students in a safe and exciting way. We want each student to not only gain the skills to surf safely but also achieve the personal freedom that surfing and the ocean have to offer.
Our yoga classes are led by amazing instructors who embody the teachings of yoga. Our classes are held in an open-air studio and are designed to meet the daily needs of the students. Whether our students are beginners to the mat or seasoned practitioners, our instructors ensure that the practice is a safe and comfortable experience.
Lastly, our Spanish and photography courses are designed to fully involve travelers in the local culture. While we do spend time in the classroom in each course, we are intentional about learning in real-life situations. Our Spanish instructors lead daily field trips, allowing students the opportunity to practice the language with members of the community. Students enrolled in photography are taken to locations that allow them to capture the true side of Jacó. Both courses are an opportunity to learn and engage with Costa Ricans in their natural settings.
